Climate and Sustainability Initiatives

DNREC’s Climate and Sustainability Section is charged with reducing the greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change and improving Delaware’s resiliency to impacts of climate change. We accomplish this through technical assistance, financial incentives, policy development, pilot projects and education initiatives.

Delaware’s Climate Action Plan

The Delaware Climate Action Plan provides strategies and actions Delaware can use to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for the impacts of climate change we are already witnessing, and which are predicted to worsen in the decades ahead.

Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG)

DNREC has received a $3 million planning grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to update the emissions component of Delaware’s Climate Action Plan and create an interim Priority Climate Action Plan which will identify key short-term priorities for maximizing rapid emissions reduction.

The Priority Climate Action Plan will be based on the 2021 Climate Action Plan and will enable Delaware and interested municipalities to apply to the EPA for implementation grants, under the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant program.

Clean Transportation

Clean transportation is a crucial strategy in lowering our greenhouse gases and meeting the challenge of climate change.

Alternative fuel vehicles help us get from here to there with cleaner air and lower fueling costs.

Sustainable Communities

Sustainable communities are vibrant, healthy and prepared to meet the challenges of a changing world.

Sustainable communities are able to balance demands for environmental protection, resiliency, and economic growth.

Data, Information and Past Reports

For more than a decade, state agencies and their partners have developed data, collected information and published reports centered on emissions, resiliency and the impact of climate change on Delawareans.
