Youth Academy Application

Return by mail or in person to:

Delaware Natural Resources Police
DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife
Attention: Brandi Besecker
89 Kings Hwy
Dover, DE 19901

In previous years, the academy focused on the Fish and Wildlife Natural Resources Police unit. Now, it includes representatives of all three of the Natural Resources Police units in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control — the Environmental Crimes Unit, the Fish and Wildlife Natural Resources Police, and the State Park Enforcement Officers.

Participants learn about what each unit does and how their work helps staff throughout the Department, and partners throughout the state, protect Delaware’s natural resources.

2022 Basic Youth Academy

The 2022 Basic Youth Academy is set for the week of July 25 to 29, 2022, at the Little Creek Hunter Education Training Center, on Bayside Drive, in Dover.

Each participant in the Natural Resources Police Basic Youth Academy will receive their hunter safety certification and the resources needed to complete their boating safety certification.

The Basic Youth Academy is limited to 20 students. Those who have not already completed a hunter safety course or a boater safety course will be given priority.

Applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 15 and must be eligible to participate in a hunter safety course.

Applications to participate in the 2022 Youth Academy are due by Friday, July 1, 2022. Applications can be mailed in, at the address on this page, or returned in-person to the Office of Boat Registration in the Richardson and Robbins building at 89 Kings Highway, in Dover.

The Youth Academy Application includes a required 100-word essay describing why they want to participate in the Academy and what Delaware’s natural resources mean to them.
