The Department has adopted a plan regarding the clean-up of the Deerfield Farms Site located in Dover. The Site consists of undeveloped woodlands and wetlands with a small mowed upland area in the northern portion. The eastern Site boundary is adjacent to a railroad easement and the Cahoon Branch transects along the southern Site boundary. By the late-1990s, much of the wooded areas of the northern central portion of the Site had been cleared from the area identified as the historical fill area in the Brownfield Investigation (BFI) Report. Furthermore, the Site is also located down-range of a former small arms firing range that was operated by the Delaware State Police from the late-1960s until the mid-2000s. Deerfield Farms will be subject to the following key remedial actions: the recording of an Environmental Covenant restricting groundwater withdrawal; and the submittal of a Contaminated Materials Management Plan, which will include recommendations regarding handling of the historic fill and any potential spent munition.

DNREC issued a public notice of the Proposed Plan for the Deerfield Farms Site on September 29, 2021. There were no comments or questions from the public regarding the Proposed Plan. Details of the Final Plan are available online at: www.nav.dnrec.delaware.gov/DEN3/
