Claymont Community Volatile Organic Compound Study (June 2021)

A six-month study to address air quality concerns for the community of Claymont, Delaware. Concerns focused on air pollution that could originate from the nearby Claymont/Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania border where several industrial facilities are located.

DNREC staff made a presentation on the study at a June 22, 2021, public meeting.

A two-year-plus study of air quality in the Eden Park neighborhood south of Wilmington. The community is surrounded by industrial neighbors, including the Port of Wilmington, several asphalt plants, material storage and processing facilities and various other facilities. The final report is supported by an analytical report.

Past Studies

Marine Vessel Impact on Ambient Air Quality, Delaware City, Delaware (March 2016)

This study investigated short-term ambient air quality impacts on air quality from marine vessels to air quality at Delaware City, Delaware.

Claymont Dust Study (May 2014)

This study was the initial deployment of the MMP in 2013 and 2014. The MMP was part of a multi-year effort that observed the potential impact of Evaraz Steel on the PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations in that area. The community initiated the study and performed the set-up and collection of PM2.5 and PM10 samples. With community involvement, this project proved that the collaboration by the State and the citizens of Delaware can produce valuable results.
