Agricultural Utilization Permit – Request for Renewal – Dogfish Head Craft Brewery

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery of Milton, Delaware, requested renewal of their existing agricultural utilization permit, State Permit Number AGU 1406-S-05.  The current permit authorizes the surface application of limited quantities of brewery vessel wash down water at agronomic rates onto approved portions of four farms know as Payton Farm, Burton Farm, Spicer Farm, and the Young Farm comprising a total of approximately 88 acres of farmland, located near the Town of Milton in Sussex County, Delaware.  The wash down water is required to undergo periodic analysis for a list of specific parameters including nutrient content.  Hydrologic load and nutrient content limit the application volume onto permitted farms.  The wash down wastewater will be delivered to the land application sites in accordance with Delaware Waste Transporters Permit No. OH-103 and does not contain sanitary wastewater.

Part V of the Department’s Guidance and Regulations Governing the Land Treatment of Wastes allows for such activity pending public notice.

A public hearing on the above application will NOT be held unless the Secretary of DNREC determines that a public hearing is in the public interest or if a written meritorious objection to the application is received by 4:30 p.m. August 20, 2019.  A public hearing request shall be deemed meritorious if it exhibits a familiarity with the application and provides a reasoned statement of the action’s probable impact.
