The Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve (DNERR) offers a day of free family fun at the Blackbird Creek Fall Festival every October.

The Blackbird Creek Reserve is at 801 Blackbird Landing Road, in Townsend. Here are directions from the north or from the south.

The Blackbird Creek Fall Festival fosters stewardship of the Delaware Bayshore by celebrating the richness of estuaries and Delaware’s cultural traditions at our beautiful scenic site at the Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve.

The festival is set for the third Saturday in October, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Blackbird Creek Reserve in Townsend.

A Full Day of Fun

The annual festival offers a variety of activities each year. Some of the highlights of recent festivals:

  • Exploring informational booths and displays
  • Checking out unique wares from local artisans and vendors
  • Taking a tractor-pulled hayride through the Blackbird Creek Reserve
  • Trying some kid-focused crafts celebrating the outdoors and autumn
  • An Estuary scavenger hunt
  • And running and playing in the great outdoors
