Community Right-to-Know

The Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) Reporting Program, in the DNREC Emergency Response and Strategic Services Section, works with local communities and the regulated community to collect and share information about the storage, use and release of hazardous and toxic chemicals.

The EPCRA program works closely with the State Emergency Response Commission and its member local emergency planning committees to enhance state and local emergency response and preparedness capabilities.

Within DNREC, the EPCRA Reporting program is responsible for the collection and dissemination of information reported under the federal and state Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Acts (EPCRA). These include a number of reporting requirements for businesses, covering information on the storage, use and release of hazardous and toxic chemicals.

Hazardous chemical inventory and related information are entered into a computer system for distribution to emergency planning and response organizations statewide. Toxics Release Inventory data is also computerized, and publicly available.
