Chesapeake Bay Milestones

To continue accelerating progress toward meeting water quality goals, the EPA and Chesapeake Bay Program jurisdictions, including Delaware, agreed to set interim two-year milestones – or short-term goals – as a critical part of an accountability framework.

The two-year milestones represent key check-in points on the way to having 60 percent of the pollution reduction measures in place by 2017 and 100 percent of the measures in place by 2025. The 2017 and 2025 goals are identified in Delaware’s Phase I and Phase II Watershed Implementation Plans (WIP). The milestones outline steps Delaware will take during a two-year period of time to reduce nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment pollution to the Chesapeake Bay.

The milestones include program actions as well as specific implementation levels for numerous best management practices in the watershed.

An input deck is a spreadsheet formatted specifically for inclusion in the Chesapeake Bay Program Watershed model for analyzing future “what-if” scenarios by the EPA. The spreadsheet contains information about the type and amount of best management practices that may be implemented, the associated units, the land uses or the fish and wildlife that the management practices apply to, and where these BMPs will be located.
