Turkey Hunting

The 2020 spring wild turkey hunting season runs from April 11 through May 9, 2020. A special one-day hunt for youth and non-ambulatory disabled hunters is set for April 4, 2020.

There is no Sunday hunting of turkeys. The bag limit is one turkey per year. Bearded turkeys only.

Turkey hunting hours are one half-hour before sunrise until 1:00 p.m.

All turkeys must be checked at an authorized turkey check station by 2:30 p.m. on the day the bird is killed.

Notice: Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak the Division is implementing self-checking at all checking stations to encourage social distancing.

Please use the self-check card inside the front of the mailbox. To complete registration of your turkey, fill out the card completely and to the best of your abilities. Remember to sign and date it. Then remove the bottom portion and deposit the top half in the slot in the back of the mailbox. The bottom portion is your receipt that you reported your harvest in case you are contacted by enforcement.

If multiple people are using or waiting to use the self-check station, please remain at least 6 feet apart from one another or fill out the card at your vehicle using your own pen.

Hunters who want to have their bird scored and entered into the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) records are reminded to have their bird’s weight recorded on a certified scale. Check stations will not be weighing birds this season. Please contact your local NWTF representative to have the turkey weighed.

Turkey Hunting Check Stations

The list of check stations is subject to change without notice. Please check back before the season begins for any changes. Check station hours may vary. Please call ahead to the station where you are likely to check a bird to confirm the hours of operation.

If you want to have your bird scored and entered into the National Wild Turkey Federation records, have your bird’s live weight recorded on a certified scale. If the check station does not have a certified scale, ask and you will be directed to another station to have the turkey re-weighed.
