A Commitment to Continuous Improvement

The leaders and staff of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) work together to build a lean, agile and responsive agency. They deliver the highest possible value to their customers while protecting and managing the state’s vital natural resources, protecting public health and safety, and providing quality outdoor recreation.

Planners in the Division of Water are trained as Continuous Improvement Practitioners, through both DNREC and First State Quality Improvement Fund supported programs. Standardization of approaches to problem-solving and project management is achieved by way of collaboration with peers through the Government Efficiency and Accountability Review and the Delaware Quality Partnership.

Planning is a key component of the Continuous Improvement model. Planners in the Division of Water facilitate change with the use of both technology and more traditional means, such as in-person workshops. They bring together managers and subject matter experts, from various disciplines, to achieve the efficiency goals of the Department and Division.

Legal Services

Legal services within the Division of Water are provided in support of compliance enforcement and several other areas of operations. The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) works closely with the Department of Justice to ensure that staff extend the highest degree of care and diligence in their public service. In the Division of Water, this is most often in a regulatory capacity.

The Division of Water paralegal is the Freedom of Information Act coordinator. Requests for public records go to the Section or program that may have access to these records. The Division FOIA Coordinator helps to expedite the request for the program.
